Austin and Las Vegas are the two remaining U.S. Formula 1 weekends in 2026, but they produce very different group trips. The United States Grand Prix in Austin runs October 23–25, while the Las Vegas Grand Prix runs November 19–21 on Formula 1's official calendar.
The simplest way to choose is this: Austin is the better all-around group trip. Las Vegas is the better spectacle.

Race-weekend structure
Austin is a destination-plus-circuit trip. Circuit of the Americas sits outside the central nightlife and hotel districts, so the organizer has to solve race-day transport separately from the rest of the weekend.
Las Vegas is the inverse. The Strip is simultaneously the hotel zone, entertainment zone, and race environment. That concentration simplifies some movement while making the hotel choice much more important. A property that looks close on a normal Las Vegas map can feel very different once circuit closures, pedestrian routing, and event access are layered in.
Which city is better when the group is not equally obsessed with F1?
Austin wins. Food, live music, bars, and neighborhoods give the weekend a strong identity even for someone who only attends qualifying and race day.
Las Vegas also has endless non-race entertainment, but the Grand Prix changes the Strip itself. Travelers who dislike crowds, premium pricing, and race-weekend disruption may feel the event even when they are trying not to participate in it.
Hotels
Austin
The cleanest strategy is usually to stay in a central hotel zone that works for dinners and nightlife, then accept that COTA transport is a dedicated part of the itinerary. Do not choose a hotel based only on straight-line distance to the circuit.
Las Vegas
In Las Vegas, the hotel is part of the race strategy. Before booking, understand the relationship between the property, ticket/viewing zone, pedestrian access, and expected closures. Moving a large group up and down the Strip can take far longer than the map suggests during major events.
Budget pressure
Las Vegas has a higher ceiling because several expensive categories can stack at the same time: race tickets, Strip lodging, premium dining, nightlife, and event-weekend minimums.
Austin can still be expensive on Grand Prix weekend, but the trip gives the group more ways to control spend. Casual food, live music, and flexible nightlife can sit alongside one or two premium race-related purchases.

Group transport
Austin's main planning risk is the COTA commute. Choose the official or authorized transport plan before the weekend and build buffer around it. Never plan a tight dinner immediately after the race based on normal-drive-time assumptions.
Las Vegas reduces the long-distance circuit commute but replaces it with intense pedestrian and traffic management. Your group should use one shared meeting point and avoid assuming everyone can casually cross the Strip in ten minutes.
