Boulder also changes the festival geography. Sundance says the new venue footprint is concentrated within roughly a two-mile radius, including theaters downtown, around Pearl Street, at CU Boulder, Chautauqua, Dairy Arts Center, and nearby locations.

Where to stay
Pearl Street / downtown Boulder
The obvious first choice. Sundance's official footprint puts multiple venues, restaurants, festival headquarters, and gathering points around the downtown core. Expect the best-located hotel inventory to tighten early.
University Hill / CU Boulder area
Useful for screenings and programming around campus, with a younger neighborhood feel and walkability toward parts of downtown.
North Boulder / nearby residential areas
Potentially better for rentals or larger groups, but compare winter walking and shuttle/transit access before choosing a place that looks close only by mileage.
Denver
Stay in Denver only if the group has a strong reason to split the trip between cities. Commuting from Denver to Boulder for multiple daily screenings will remove much of the festival's spontaneity.
The new venue footprint
Sundance has announced theaters including Boulder Theater, Chautauqua Auditorium, Dairy Arts Center venues, CU Boulder's Macky Auditorium and other campus theaters, Boulder High School Auditorium, eTown Hall, and Cinemark Century Boulder.
The concentration is promising for group travel because travelers can stay in Boulder and move among several venues without the multi-city complexity associated with some major festivals.
Still, January weather matters. A two-mile festival footprint is very different in dry sunshine than during snow and ice, so build realistic walking times and warm-weather backup transport into the itinerary.
Getting from Denver International Airport
DEN is the main gateway. Compare airport bus/shuttle options, private transfers, and rental cars based on group size. If you stay centrally in Boulder, a car may be less useful during the festival than it first appears—parking around venues can become another problem to solve.
For six or eight travelers arriving within a similar window, a private transfer may be worth comparing with individual fares.

Day 1: Arrive, check into Boulder, pick up credentials/tickets if applicable, explore Pearl Street.
